HAVANA, April 25 (NNN-ACN) — Cuban Health Minister Jose Angel Portal Miranda said that China is Cuba’s strategic allied in the areas of medical assistance, biotechnology, professional training and the fight against infectious diseases.
During a Cuba-China Cooperation forum as part of the ongoing Cuba Salud 2025 Health Conference, Portal Miranda referred to the tight cooperation relations shared by Chinese entities and Cuba’s ministries of health and Higher Education, and Havana’s Medical University since 2022.
The minister announced the setting up of a joint university in the Chinese province of Hebei, a project that includes a hospital integrating artificial intelligence and the Cuban medical experience to the benefit of universal health.
China is Cuba’s main provider of medications and supplies for the local health system. At present five Cuban medical contracts are under implementation in Hebei, along joint academic actions like the training of 666 Chinese professionals up to 2018, the minister explained.
Portal Miranda also referred to actions aimed to boost health tourism through 15 working contracts between Chinese agencies and Cuba’s Medical Service Company. He pointed to a project to set up a dentist clinic with Chinese technology and Cuban personnel.
The Cuban government official said that the Cuba Salud 2025 Conference and its exhibitions will allow draw up working guidelines, identify mutual interests to boost South-South cooperation to the benefit of the people. — NNN-ACN
