
CHISINAU, April 17 (NNN-KBC) — Moldova expressed its commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation across all fields with Morocco.
Moldova also expressed its support for the autonomy plan proposed by Morocco as a definitive solution to the regional dispute over its Sahara, considering it “the most serious and credible basis” for resolving the conflict.
In a Joint Declaration adopted following talks in Chisinau between the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Moldova, Mihai Popșoi, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, both parties praised the excellent relations between their countries and reiterated their common will to further enhance political dialogue and bilateral cooperation.
They also reaffirmed their commitment to increasing economic, trade, and cultural cooperation between the two nations.
Both ministers agreed on organizing a business forum aimed at seizing partnership opportunities in sectors such as agriculture, fertilizers, energy, industrial subcontracting, digital technologies, and cybersecurity.
They also agreed to explore ways to further develop cooperation between their respective diplomatic academies.
Popșoi and Bourita welcomed the signing of several agreements during this visit and emphasized the importance of strengthening the bilateral legal framework in specific areas of mutual interest.
The two ministers reaffirmed the positive and constructive roles of both countries in maintaining stability, security, and peace in their respective regions, and expressed their commitment to the peaceful resolution of conflicts and to respect for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of States.
Popșoi took the opportunity to commend Morocco’s role as a regional hub of stability and a driver of growth and development in Africa.
For his part, Bourita welcomed the official launch of the Republic of Moldova’s accession negotiations with the European Union, as well as the reform efforts undertaken by the country in the framework of this process.
Both ministers agreed to continue consultations and coordination within international organizations and bodies.
The Republic of Moldova also expressed its “full support for the sincere efforts” made by Morocco to resolve the issue of the Moroccan Sahara.
Meanwhile in TALLINN, Estonia has hailed the leadership of King Mohammed VI and Morocco’s active role as a hub of peace, stability and development in the region and reiterated, its support for the autonomy plan, presented in April 2007 by Morocco, to settle the Moroccan Sahara issue, describing the plan as a “good, serious and credible basis for an agreed solution between all parties,” while “encouraging other governments to join this position.”*
Speaking at a press conference following his meeting in Tallinn with Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, Estonia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Margus Tsahkna, stressed that his country is particularly interested in bolstering ties with Morocco.
Praising these excellent ties, the head of Estonian diplomacy reaffirmed the shared desire to further strengthen the partnership between his country and Morocco in all areas of common interest.
On this occasion, Tsahkna recalled the importance of the Joint Declaration, signed in Rabat on October 21, 2024, stating that this Declaration represents an important roadmap for strengthening and diversifying the partnership between the two countries.
In the Declaration, Estonia praised Morocco’s stability and the ambitious reforms carried out under the leadership of King Mohammed VI, which have positioned Morocco as a vital and credible partner for the European Union and the region.
Estonia also praised the efforts made under the leadership of King Mohammed VI to promote peace, stability and economic development in Africa.
It welcomed the importance of the initiatives launched, under the Sovereign’s impetus, for Africa, particularly the “Royal Initiative to facilitate Sahel countries’ access to the Atlantic Ocean,” the “Atlantic African States Process” and the “Morocco-Nigeria Gas Pipeline” project.
The meeting in Tallinn between Bourita and Tsahkna showcases the mutual will of Morocco and Estonia to bolster the ties between the two countries. It also testifies to the both countries’ determination to advance political dialogue and economic partnership, as well as to coordinate on topics of mutual interest at the bilateral, regional and international levels.
During this press conference Estonia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, also expressed support for the autonomy plan comes amid growing international momentum, driven by King Mohammed VI, for Morocco’s sovereignty over its Sahara and the Autonomy Plan.
Estonia’s position aligns with the spirit of the United Nations Security Council’s most recent Resolution 2756, which welcomed the positive momentum and urged efforts to build upon it. — NNN-KBC
