Zanzibar launches new strategic tourism campaign in China

BEIJING (China), Sept 7 (NNN-DAILYNEWS) — ZANZIBAR Commission for Tourism (ZCT) Executive Secretary Arif Abbas Manji launched a tourism campaign during the Business, Investment and Tourism Promotion Forum in Weihai, Shandong Province, saying the initiative goes beyond increasing the number of visitors.

“This is not just about increasing tourist arrivals…it’s about creating sustainable opportunities for employment, investment and cultural exchange. Zanzibar will benefit through stronger partnerships, diversified markets and a more resilient tourism sector,” he said.

The campaign aims at boosting Zanzibar’s visibility on major Chinese digital platforms while positioning the islands as a leading destination for Chinese travellers.

And, through recognising China as one of its strategic markets for expansion, Manji said, Zanzibar will highlight its pristine beaches, cultural heritage and historic legacy to attract a growing pool of tourists.

“In a digital world and through platforms like WeChat, TikTok, Douyin and Rednote, Zanzibar will reach millions of potential tourists we have never reached before. This visibility positions us as a must-visit destination, ensuring that our story is told on the world’s biggest stages,” he added.

The move marks a significant step in Zanzibar’s efforts to diversify its tourism markets while strengthening economic and cultural ties with China.

Manji launched the campaign at the presence of a number of Chinese government officials, including Deputy Director of Foreign Investment and Economic Cooperation Division Shen Qianjin; Deputy Director of the Opening-Up Division, Development and Reform Commission Xue Zhaowei; and Deputy Director of Bureau of Commerce of Weihai City Ding Wensheng. — NNN-DAILYNEWS
