SINGAPORE, Oct 24 (NNN-XINHUA) – Singapore’s manufacturing output rose 16.1 percent year-on-year, in Sept, according to data released today, by the Economic Development Board.
On a seasonally adjusted month-on-month basis, overall output jumped 26.3 percent.
All clusters, except general manufacturing and precision engineering, recorded year-on-year gains. Biomedical manufacturing led the surge with a robust 45.9 percent increase.
Within the cluster, the pharmaceuticals segment expanded 55.3 percent, supported by higher production of biological products and a different mix of active pharmaceutical ingredients. The medical technology segment also grew 4.8 percent, buoyed by sustained export demand for medical devices.
In contrast, output in the general manufacturing and precision engineering clusters fell 4.7 percent and 5.9 percent, respectively.– NNN-XINHUA
