Cuban President Diaz-Canel denounces new US anti-Cuba move

HAVANA, July 2 (NNN-ACN) — Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel denounced the new US plan strengthening Washington’s economic, commercial and financial blockade of the island.

In an X message, Diaz-Canel described the new US Presidential Memorandum released on Monday as an aggressive measure responding to the tight interests which do not represent the wish of the majority of the US people.

The Cuban President alerted that the new US move aims at inflicting the strongest harm and suffering possible to the Cuban people, but he sad that despite its impact “they will not have us kneel down.”

US President Donald Trump issued a new Memorandum on Monday updating the US policy on Cuba, meaning the strengthening of the US blockade by passing measures similar to those imposed during his first office term, including the legal prohibition of US tourism to Cuba and other actions damaging Cuban economy.

Meanwhile, Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez extended his gratefulness to the people and government of Venezuela for their rejection of the new US Presidential Memorandum strengthening the US economic blockade of the island nation.

Rodriguez wrote on X that the Presidential Memorandum is a measure tightening the US blockade and he went on to stress the heroic solidarity of the Venezuelan people towards their Cuban sisters and brothers. “We know that we can count on Venezuela’s solidarity and strong international support,” Rodriguez wrote.

The Venezuelan government strongly rejected the new US Presidential Memorandum and described the measure as inhumane, anachronistic and a violation of International Law.

Separately, the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America-People’s Trade Treaty (ALBA-TCP) on Tuesday strongly condemned the US policy to reinforce economic aggression and blockade against Cuba.

In a statement, the bloc denounced Washington’s decision to reactivate and update Presidential Memorandum No.5 from the Trump administration, which strengthens the US blockade against Cuba.

The decision signals intensified US attempts to enforce regime change and disrupt Cuba’s key sectors, including tourism, healthcare, migration, cultural and academic exchange, and access to technology, said the bloc.

The real intention of the US government is to dominate Cuba and control its future, it said, reiterating its unwavering solidarity with the Cuban people and government in defending their sovereignty, freedom and self-determination.

The member states also reiterated their commitment to peace, security, diplomacy, non-interference and the right to self-determination, it added.

ALBA-TCP, comprising Antigua and Barbuda, Bolivia, Cuba, Dominica, Grenada, Nicaragua, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Saint Lucia, and Venezuela, is an intergovernmental organization that aims for social, political and economic integration of Latin American and Caribbean countries. — NNN-ACN
