LJUBLJANA, May 24 (NNN-XINHUA) — The number of foreign tourists visiting Slovenia rose by 31.1 percent year-on-year in April, reaching 378,333, the country’s Statistical Office reported.
Overnight stays totaled 1.1 million, setting a new record for the month of April, which marks a nearly 22 percent increase compared to the same period in 2024.
Foreign visitors accounted for 77.4 percent of all tourist arrivals. The major source countries were Italy, Germany, Austria, Croatia, and Hungary.
The data also showed that 5,430 Chinese tourists visited Slovenia in April, up by 38 percent compared to the same month last year. This continues the strong upward trend, following a 68 percent year-on-year surge in 2024.
Slovenia, a mountainous country lying on the Adriatic Sea, shares borders with Italy, Austria, Hungary and Croatia. Forests cover almost 60 percent of its territory.
The capital city Ljubljana, known for its beautiful medieval centre, remains the top destination for foreign visitors. It is followed by the picturesque seaside city of Piran and the lakeside city of Bled, nestled in the mountains.
