Massive Air Defence Drills Underway In Central Iran

TEHRAN, Nov 23 (NNN-FARS) – Drills, code-named, Guardians of Velayat’s Sky-98, entered its second day on Friday, in the central Iranian province of Semnan, according a news report.

The drills, which are held over an area of 416,000 square km, aim to boost combat readiness over potential threats in the Gulf and Strait of Hormuz, said the report.

Iranian air defence units started the second day of their large-scale military exercises with various types of state-of-the-art missile and radar systems, designed and built at home, boasting their counteroffensive power against different aerial threats, it said.

“The first phase of the drills featured detection and identification of enemy targets, while the next one will focus on radar system’s engaging airborne targets,” Alireza Sabahi, commander of Iran’s air defence force, said, on the sidelines of the manoeuvres.– NNN-FARS
