Tanzania envisions sports tourism in the 2027 AFCON

DAR ES SALAAM, Nov 27 (NNN-DAILYNEWS) — TO ensure the number of tourists visiting the country increases and reaches eight million within five years, the Tanzania Tourist Board (TTB) has been urged to take advantage of Tanzania hosting the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) to promote the country and boost tourist arrivals.

The directive was issued by the Minister for Natural Resources and Tourism, Dr. Ashatu Kijaji, during her working visit to the Tanzania Tourist Board offices in Dar es Salaam.

She called on the board to strengthen its research efforts and reform its approach to accessing tourism product markets so that more tourists can visit the country and help achieve the set target.

She also emphasized that the board should improve the products it takes to the market, including introducing new tourism products available in the country.

Dr. Kijaji said, “We have this capability because our nation is blessed with many tourist attractions, yet we have marketed very few. Therefore, the major task we have given TTB today is to ensure we have a variety of tourism products that we have never taken to the market so that tourists who visited previously can return with others.”

She further directed the board to intensify research to identify attractions that have not yet been marketed and to pinpoint their locations, while urging TTB to collaborate with institutions that manage those attractions.

“At least every year, we should have a new product to take to the market. What is its purpose? Who exactly is its market? Which audience will it benefit? What language will be used to market it? And we must have clear customer segmentation to achieve the target of bringing in eight million tourists,” said Dr. Kijaji. — NNN-DAILYNEWS
