AGONA ASAFO (Ghana), Aug 31 (NNN-GNA) — A celebratory float in Agona Asafo turned tragic when a truck loaded with coconuts lost control and rammed into a crowd, leaving five people in critical condition and 13 others injured.

The incident according to myjoyonline.com report occurred on the main street of Agona Asafo in the Agona East District during the community’s annual football gala, which marks the opening of the traditional Kwabo Festival on Aug 30.

Assemblyman for the Agona Asafo Electoral Area, Ishmael Odoom, confirmed the accident and explained that the crash happened shortly after the tournament ended.

Supporters of the winning team were parading through the town when the truck suddenly veered into the crowd.

“The Kia heavily loaded with coconuts failed to stop despite seeing the large crowd and ran into the people celebrating on the street,” Odoom said.

All 18 injured victims were quickly transported to the Agona Swedru Government Hospital, where five are reported to be in critical condition.

Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the accident and the circumstances that led to the driver losing control. — NNN-GNA
