Tanzania cherishes everlasting ties with Ghana: VP Dr Mpango

DAR ES SALAAM, Aug 30 (NNN-DAILYNEWS) — TANZANIA and Ghana have continued to benefit from the existing historic ties that began during the period of the countries’ quest for independence, inspired by the friendship of the two nations’ founding fathers; Julius Nyerere and Kwame Nkrumah.

The Tanzanian Vice President Dr Philip Mpango, said good relationship Mwalimu  Nyerere, and Kwame Nkrumah is everlasting as the two countries have been allies for many years.

Dr Mpango said this when he met and held talks with the outgoing Ambassador of the Republic of Ghana to Tanzania, Damptey Bediako Asare, at the State House in Dar es Salaam.

He said that Tanzania recognizes the contribution of the Republic of Ghana in the liberation of Southern African countries during the struggle for independence.

“These two countries have developed their existing cooperation, which is currently focused more on economic relations. It is important to continue to cooperate more in investment and trade through the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCTFA) program,” he said.

He also said that more cooperation is needed in various sectors such as the mining sector, agriculture, tourism, IT, education and social services.

He has invited investors from Ghana to invest in Tanzania through the many opportunities available.

The Vice President has also congratulated Ghana for the International Trade Fair held in Dar es Salaam in 2024.

He said that through the fair, economic cooperation between the two countries has increased and sent a message to other countries on the importance of prioritizing cooperation among African countries themselves.

Similarly, the Vice President has expressed his condolences to the Government and People of Ghana following the recent plane crash that killed eight people including the Minister of Defense and the Minister of Environment of the country.

He said that Tanzania joins the Republic of Ghana in this period of mourning and prays that the deceased may rest in peace.

On the part of the outgoing Ambassador of the Republic of Ghana to Tanzania, Damptey Bediako Asare thanked the Government of Tanzania for the cooperation he received throughout his tenure as ambassador in the country.

He has conveyed the greetings of the President of Ghana, John Mahama, which he has conveyed to the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan and the Government in general for continuing cooperation and supporting Ghana in various fields, especially in international forums. — NNN-DAILYNEWS
