BRASILIA, Aug 17 (NNN-ACN) — Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva expressed his stance in favor of Cuba as he defended the More Doctors program (Mais Médicos) after Washington revoked entry visas to Brazilian officials for being involved in Cuba’s medical cooperation missions to Brazil.
Speaking in the locality of Goiana, state of Pernambuco, Lula da Silva said that their relations with Cuba are based on respect to the Cuban people, who have been the victims of an over-60-year US economic, commercial and financial blockade.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio recently announced the revocation of entry visas to Brazilian government officials, former officials with the Panamerican Health Organization and their relatives. The measure affects all those who are involved in the Cuban medical assistance program.
Cuba has maintained its international medical assistance program since the 1960s. over 600,000 Cuban doctors have worked in 165 nations of the world and also participated in the Mais Medicos initiative in Brazil between 2013 and 2018 through the Panamerican Health Organization. — NNN-ACN
