Tanzania: 16 local companies cleared to export avocados to China

DODOMA (Tanzania), Aug 4 (NNN-DAILYNEWS) — The Tanzania Plant Health and Pesticides Authority (TPHPA) has announced that a total of 16 Tanzanian companies have been cleared to export avocados to China, following official registration by the General Administration of Customs of China (GACC).

TPHPA, one of the public organizations participating in the ongoing Farmers’ Exhibition, famously known as Nanenane, at Nzuguni grounds in Dodoma, made the announcement during the official opening of the annual event.

The exhibition provides a unique platform to explore cutting-edge agricultural technologies, network with industry leaders, and uncover investment opportunities in agriculture, livestock, and fisheries sub-sectors.

“The United Republic of Tanzania is pleased to announce that 16 Tanzanian companies engaged in avocado production have received official registration from the General Administration of Customs of China (GACC), granting them authorization to begin exporting fresh avocados to the Chinese market,” read the TPHPA statement.

The authority noted that the move marks a significant milestone in Tanzania’s agricultural export journey, reflecting the nation’s growing reputation for producing high-quality horticultural products that meet international phytosanitary standards.

Phytosanitary refers to measures or standards that are designed to protect plants and plant products including fruits, vegetables, seeds from pests, diseases, and other harmful organisms during international trade.

According to the TPHPA statement, the GACC registration was granted following a bilateral agreement and inspection process between Tanzania and the Asian economic powerhouse, which confirmed beyond reasonable doubt that Tanzania meets China’s import requirements.

“As a result, a wide section of Tanzanian producers can now access the Chinese market, creating new opportunities for trade, value addition, and income generation for farmers and agribusinesses,” the authority added.

TPHPA further explained that the Ministry of Agriculture and the Authority remain committed to supporting farmers and exporters, while ensuring sustained growth and competitiveness of permitted produce. The Authority also urged stakeholders to continue adhering to export standards, maintain phytosanitary integrity, and uphold the sustainability of the country’s horticultural exports.

The 16 approved companies include Green Fruits Supplies Company Limited, Vegpro Tanzania Limited, Jamboo Fresh Limited, Tanzania Agrofoods Company Limited, Tova Farm Company Limited, Seasons Orchards Ltd and Agrocert Tanzania Company Limited.

Others are Avo Distribution Group, Lima Limited, Korongo 3 Agribusiness Ltd, Kibidula Farm Limited, Africado Limited, Avoafrica Tz Limited, Kuza Africa Company Ltd, Parachichi Fresh Products Ltd, and USA Limited.

TPHPA was established under Act No. 04 of 2020 with the primary goal of ensuring the country’s agricultural produce complies with the requirements of the International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) on sanitary and phytosanitary measures.

The Authority is a result of the merger between the Plant Health Section under the Ministry of Agriculture and the Tropical Pesticides Research Institute (TPRI), aimed at streamlining coordination, optimizing resource use, and eliminating duplication of roles to enhance efficiency and effectiveness in service delivery. — NNN-DAILYNEWS
