Montevideo, Aug 3 (NNN-PRENSA LATINA) — The Uruguayan government is preparing a permanent plan of attention to people living on the streets.

The head of the Ministry of Social Development (Mides), Gonzalo Civila, said that the data of a survey on the issue in Montevideo “worry, surprise and occupy”.

Civila announced for Aug 20 the launching of a national strategic plan for the whole period of government aimed at benefiting homeless people.

A study conducted in Uruguay reported that 46.9 percent of those assisted in the emergency centers up to July 15 had not attended services aimed at the homeless population in the last year; in addition, 30 percent also did not contact such services in the last four years.

The document disclosed by Subrayado points out that 2,708 people went to Mides shelters between June 23 and July 23. Another 1,378 people went to evacuation centers.

Of this total, 82 percent were men and the rest women. The average age is 40 years old.

Meanwhile, temperatures are expected to plummet in the coming days. The operation continues and Mides is evaluating other measures. — NNN-PRENSA LATINA
