EU and US agree trade deal, with 15% tariffs for European exports to America

EDINBURGH (Scotland, UK), July 28 (NNN-AGENCIES) — A trade deal has been reached between the European Union and the US after high-stakes negotiations at Donald Trump’s luxury golf resort in Turnberry, Scotland.

The agreement will see a blanket US tariff of 15% on all EU goods. Details of the deal are still being pored over but, as part of it, Trump also said the EU had promised hundreds of billions of dollars worth of investment and energy purchases.

The US leader described the agreement as the “largest ever made”; while Ursula von der Leyen hailed the deal, saying it would bring stability and predictability for both sides.

In the hours that followed the announcement, European leaders cautiously welcomed the trade deal with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz saying the agreement managed to preserve the EU’s fundamental interests.

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni views the deal as positive but stresses she would need to see the details before passing proper judgement.

Irish Prime Minister Micheal Martin says it will help bring stability, but he acknowledges that trade will be more expensive than before.

Trump is due to meet UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, before heading to Balmedie in Aberdeenshire where he is expected to open a new golf course at his resort there.

Trump is scheduled to return to the US on Tuesday but will be back in the UK for a state visit on Sept 17-19, when he will be hosted by King Charles III. — NNN-AGENCIES
