Tanzania, Zimbabwe pledge to broaden diplomatic ties in strategic areas

DAR ES SALAAM, July 26 (NNN-DAILYNEWS) — TANZANIA  and Zimbabwe have pledged to strengthen their longstanding historical relationship by focusing on key areas of development, including trade and investment, defense, information and communication technology (ICT), education and training, tourism, culture and sports, as well as immigration affairs.

This commitment was reached during bilateral talks held on the sidelines of the 27th Ministerial Committee of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Organ on Politics, Defense, and Security Cooperation (MCO), between Tanzania’s Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Ambassador Mahmoud Thabit Kombo, and Zimbabwe’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Prof. Amon Murwira, in Dar es Salaam.

During the discussions, the two ministers expressed their countries’ commitment to advancing diplomatic and economic cooperation for the benefit of their citizens.

Minister Kombo emphasized that Zimbabwe is a long-standing ally of Tanzania and that both nations have significant development opportunities they can jointly explore.

“Tanzania and Zimbabwe share a common history in the African liberation struggle. We must now leverage that historical bond to strengthen development cooperation that positively impacts the lives of our people. It is also vital that the new generation is informed about this history so they can appreciate and build upon the legacy established by our founding leaders,” said Kombo.

On his part, Prof. Murwira underscored the importance of investing in higher education, research, and innovation, describing them as key drivers of a modern economy. He noted Zimbabwe’s readiness to collaborate with Tanzania in establishing student, researcher, and university faculty exchange programs.

This meeting is part of Tanzania’s broader diplomatic efforts to enhance strategic partnerships with neighboring and historically allied countries. It also aligns with the country’s current economic diplomacy policy championed by the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Samia Suluhu Hassan, which aims to boost international cooperation for national development. — NNN-DAILYNEWS
