
BUKOBA (Tanzania), July 17 (NNN-DAILYNEWS) — THE World Health Organization (WHO) has donated medical equipment worth 112m/- to the Tanzanian Ministry of Health to support efforts in managing disease outbreaks in Biharamulo and Muleba districts of the Kagera Region.
The equipment was received by the Acting Director of Emergency and Disaster Management at the Ministry of Health, Dr. Erasto Sylvanus, on behalf of the Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Grace Magembe. The handover is part of WHO’s support following the recent outbreak of the Marburg virus in the region.
The donated items include hospital beds, bed linen washing machines, medicine stands, water storage and sanitation buckets for health centers, and advanced diagnostic equipment.
Dr. Sylvanus stated that the equipment is part of the government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen emergency preparedness and response capacity. He urged healthcare workers to take good care of the equipment to ensure its long-term use.
He added that the Marburg outbreak has offered critical lessons for the health sector, including the importance of educating the public to report unusual symptoms, encouraging community participation, and strengthening stakeholder collaboration in disease control.
Furthermore, Dr. Sylvanus noted that the donated equipment will enhance the performance of healthcare professionals in Kagera Region and expressed gratitude to WHO for its timely and consistent support throughout the outbreak response.
WHO has affirmed its commitment to continue working with the Government of Tanzania to strengthen the health system and respond to emerging public health challenges. — NNN-DAILYNEWS
