Mahama Calls for Justice and Reparations on AU Day

MALABO (Equatorial Guinea), July 15 (NNN-XINHUA) — Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama called for reparations from nations that undertook the trans-Atlantic slave trade and colonization of Africa, emphasizing the need to restore the continent’s full human dignity.

Mahama, also serving as the African Union (AU) champion for reparatory justice for Africans and people of African descent, made the call in his progress report at the seventh Mid-Year Coordination Meeting of the AU held in Malabo, the capital of Equatorial Guinea.

He urged the global community to stand with Africa in its quest for a just and equitable world.

“Africa’s demand for reparative justice is no longer a mere murmur. It is a unified demand grounded in historical truth, moral clarity, and our unwavering commitment to dignity,” Mahama said.

Moreover, Mahama called on the international community to collaborate with the AU in creating a more just and equitable world for African people, emphasizing the strong link between reparations, African identity, and dignity.

“We cannot speak of development without identity or speak of unity without acknowledging the era that has fractured our heritage,” he added, highlighting the importance of a unified African campaign on the global stage through robust partnerships. — NNN-XINHUA
