INDIANAPOLIS (Indiana, US), July 8 (NNN-AGENCIES) — Police have confirmed that two teenage boys were killed and five others were injured in a late-night mass shooting near downtown Indianapolis.
The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department revealed that it heard gunshots and rushed to the scene near Washington and Meridian Street just before 1:30 a.m. Saturday, after reports of a disturbance.
Police say a 16-year-old boy was found shot and killed on the scene, and another gunfire victim, a boy, 15, died later at the hospital.
Cops also said that five others were slapped with wounds and transported to the hospital alongside the teen, who later passed on.
Those who survived the Indianapolis shooting have been identified as a 16-year-old, a 17-year-old, two 19-year-olds, and a 21-year-old, per police.
Reports indicate that cops recovered multiple firearms at the scene and detained seven people for questioning over the mass shooting.
According to The Post, no arrests have been made, and police have not identified a motive behind the shooting.
Chris Bailey, IMPD Chief, expressed his frustration at the brazen shooting spree that claimed two lives.
“We should all be shaken by what occurred. We cannot grow numb to the violence in our community wherever it occurs. I stand here angry, heartbroken, frustrated because too many lives are being lost,” Bailey told reporters at a press conference.
According to Bailey, the downtown area has been home to “lawlessness” in recent weeks.
“What I’ve seen downtown over the last few weeks is absolutely ridiculous. Lawlessness, disrespect, and reckless behavior of people of all ages. It’s nothing we should expect,” he said. — NNN-AGENCIES
