Tanzania saves 100bn/- monthly since DP World acquired Dar Port

DODOMA, July 6 (NNN-DAILYNEWS) — THE Tanzanian government has significantly reduced the operational costs of the Dar es Salaam Port following a new investment agreement the country signed with DP World on Oct 22, 2023.

Through this strategic agreement, the government has managed to lower monthly expenditures from an average of 262.153bn/- (between May 2023 and March 2024) to 166.323bn/-per month (from May 2024 to March 2025).

This reflects a substantial reduction of approximately 100bn/- every month.

Since President Samia Suluhu Hassan assumed office in March 2021, there have been major improvements in the efficiency of the Dar es Salaam Port.

One of the key achievements is the increase in the number of containers handled at the port—from 159,807 before her administration to 215,286. This marks a 35percent ncrease, highlighting deliberate efforts to enhance port services.

In addition to the growth in container volume, the weight of cargo handled at the Dar es Salaam Port has also increased by 14percent. Cargo volume rose from 14.824 million tonnes to 16.870 million tonnes, an increase of 2.046 million tonnes.

This growth signals a boost in economic and commercial activities through the strategically important port serving the East African region.

These successes are considered part of the results of effective management and modern strategies implemented by the sixth-phase government, particularly in the transport and port sectors. The agreement with DP World has brought operational reforms that have significantly increased efficiency and reduced costs.

Overall, these measures reflect the government’s commitment to ensuring that strategic infrastructure, such as the Dar es Salaam Port, is used more efficiently—attracting international investment, increasing national revenue, and reducing operational expenses for the benefit of all Tanzanians. — NNN-DAILYNEWS
