
RABAT, June 15 (NNN-AGENCIES) — Morocco has made significant progress in its preparations for the 2030 FIFA World Cup after it awarded a $320 million construction contract to a domestic consortium for the construction of the Sidi Slimane Grand Stadium.
The new 115,000 seater modern stadium will be located on a 100-hectare site near Benslimane north of Casablanca which will be the largest stadium in Africa once completed.
The winning bid was submitted by Casablanca-based construction leaders TGCC and SGTM which were the only consortium to meet both the technical and financial requirements, according to Morocco’s official public procurement platform.
The project will serve as the heart of a sprawling sports city which features a 25,000-seat athletics stadium and an Olympic-sized indoor swimming pool.
Other salient features of the new stadium will include a multipurpose arenas, luxury hotels, and a state-of-the-art conference centre.
The plan’s transport infrastructure is essential and its location will have easy access to major highways that serve Rabat, Casablanca, and Marrakech, and Mohammed V International Airport .
The construction is expected to be completed in December 2027 ahead of the 2030 FIFA World Cup which will be hosted jointly by Morocco, Spain and Portugal .
Sidi Slimane stadium is expected to be one of the tournament’s flagship venues which complement upgrades in Rabat, Casablanca, Tangier, Marrakech, Fes, and Agadir. — NNN-AGENCIES
