BRUSSELS (Belgium), June 15 (NNN-KBCZ0 — Kenya continues to enjoy cordial and strategic relations with the European Union (EU) and the European Investment Bank (EIB), with the partnership playing a vital role in the country’s energy transition agenda.
Through the Kenyan Embassy in the Kingdom of Belgium which also serves as its Mission to the EU the country has benefited from sustained support in implementing major infrastructure and energy projects, notably the Last Mile Connectivity Programme, aimed at accelerating electricity access across rural and underserved communities.
In a statement the Principal Secretary Ministry of Energy, Alex Wachira noted that the Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), along with pumped hydro storage and other emerging green technologies, are being deployed to complement variable renewable energy sources like solar and wind.
He noted that these technologies play a critical role in shifting excess daytime generation to meet evening and night-time demand, thereby enhancing grid flexibility and reducing the need for carbon-intensive peaking plants.
“Kenya continues to enjoy cordial relations with the EU and European Investment Bank (headquartered in Brussels) through support in implementing the Last Mile Connectivity Programme.” The PS noted.
