Cuba and South Africa reassert interest in strengthening ties

GENEVA (Switzerland), June 13 (NNN-ACN) — Marta Elena Feitó Cabrera, Cuban Minister of Labor and Social Security, and Nomakhosazana Meth, South African Minister of Employment and Labor, reaffirmed the interest to keep strengthening and expanding cooperation in this field.

In the framework of the 113th International Labor Conference, held in Geneva, both parties praised the excellent level of the links between their nations, based on the historic relationship established by Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro and the South African leader Nelson Mandela.

Feitó shared with her South African counterpart the island’s initiative Color Cubano, a national program against racism and racial discrimination deemed an important instrument in the effort to dignify the African roots in Cuba and in its labor system.

On her end, the South African official thanked Cuba for its sustained support and solidarity, particularly in the field of health.

Cuba and South Africa established diplomatic relations on May 11, 1994 in what was the first foreign policy act of the democratic South African government. — NNN-ACN
