One Killed, One Injured In Massive Blaze In Indian Capital

NEW DELHI, Nov 9 (NNN-PTI) – One person was killed and another suffered severe burns, in a massive fire that broke out inside a slum, in India’s national capital territory Delhi, officials said, today.

The fire broke out last night, near the Rithala metro station, in the Rohini area of the city.

According to Delhi Fire Services’ officials, around 500 shanties were gutted and razed to the ground in the fire. It took several hours for the firefighters to contain the fire.

Television images showed thick plumes of smoke rising from the area, even as firefighters tried to sprinkle water, and locals scrambled to save their belongings and move to safer places.

The cause of the fire was not immediately known.– NNN-PTI
