NICE (FRANCE), June 11 (NNN-AGENCIES) — TANZANIA and the United Nations have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral ties through enhanced collaboration with various UN-affiliated institutions.
The Vice President, Dr. Philip Mpango, held high-level talks with UN Secretary-General António Guterres on the sidelines of the Third United Nations Ocean Conference (UNOC3), currently going on in Nice, France.
The meeting focused on deepening cooperation between Tanzania and the UN, particularly in sectors supported by UN agencies.
In addition to the bilateral talks, Dr. Mpango officiated a side event titled: “Building a Resilient Blue Economy in the Pemba Ocean Channel,” which spotlighted Tanzania’s commitment to harnessing ocean resources sustainably.
Dr Mpango is in France representing President Samia Suluhu Hassan at the global summit.
Yesterday he delivered Tanzania’s national statement during the opening session of UNOC3 on Monday.
He urged the international community to take joint action to promote a sustainable ocean economy, reduce marine pollution, and safeguard marine biodiversity through long-term, inclusive investments.
The UNOC3 summit has brought together world leaders, policymakers, and experts to chart the way forward for global ocean governance and the sustainable use of marine resources. — NNN-AGENCIES
