ACCRA, May 31 (NNN-GNA) — Over 60 Pan-African leaders from 32 countries convened virtually to begin preparations for the 80th anniversary of the historic Fifth Pan-African Congress, held in Manchester in 1945.

Organised by the Pan-African Progressive Front (PPF), the Ghana Socialist Movement, and Pan Africanism Today, the event highlighted a renewed urgency in confronting neocolonialism, imperialism, and disunity across the continent.

Speakers, including Albie Walls of the All-African People’s Revolutionary Party and Roland Diagne of FERNET (Senegal), underscored the enduring legacy of the Manchester Congress and called for a clear, united vision for African liberation.

Kwesi Pratt Jr. of the PPF outlined a strategic roadmap, advocating for thematic commissions on labour, gender, and youth, alongside mass mobilisation efforts.

Key interventions came from organisations such as the African Party for the Independence of Guinea and Cape Verde, the Pan-African Movement for Reparations, and CODESA, who collectively called for concrete action toward sovereignty, reparations, and decolonisation.

The meeting concluded with the formation of a central organising committee and a pledge to intensify collaboration in the lead-up to the 2025 commemorations, seen as a critical juncture for Pan-African renewal and resistance. — NNN-GNA
