LUANDA, May 29 (NNN-XINHUA) — The Angolan government launched a Youth Employment and Opportunities Project for 2025-2029, backed by 250 million U.S. dollars from the World Bank, to create 500,000 jobs for youths.
Approved on Wednesday by the Cabinet Council, the project aims to increase employment opportunities for young people and create 500,000 jobs over the term, prioritizing women and people with disabilities.
Teresa Dias, minister of the Public Administration, Labor and Social Security of Angola, said the effort began in 2023 with a World Bank study that recommended a job creation strategy to boost short-term productivity and invest in human capital development.
Dias said that the program, approved by the bank in March, will support vulnerable young people between the ages of 16 and 35. It is dedicated to eliminating barriers in the labor market, offering incentives for companies to hire new graduates, promoting green, digital jobs and entrepreneurship, and improving the quality of existing jobs.
The Angolan government said it strives to support 100,000 vulnerable young people with economic opportunities, 5,000 entrepreneurs with growth potential, and 400,000 people with employment opportunities. The project is expected to lower the country’s high unemployment rate, it said. — NNN-XINHUA
