Geneva, June 21 (NNN-Prensa Latina) – Cuban Labor and Social Security Minister Margarita Gonzalez reasserted before the International Labour Organization (ILO) Cuba”s commitment to defend positions of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), diplomatic sources reported on Wednesday.
She spoke at the meeting of the NAM Ministers of Labor, held within the framework of the 108th ILO Conference that takes place these days in Geneva on the centennial of the organization.
According to a diplomatic note, the Cuban representative also confirmed Havana’s commitment to ‘unity and cooperation among non-aligned countries.’
The official said that the centenary of ILO ‘forces us to reflect on all the efforts of the organization and our countries, in what has been achieved and what remains to be done in the world of labour, to meet the goals that have been proposed for the sake of achieing safe, equitable and decent jobs for a decent future. ‘
Gonzalez also emphasized that unemployment, the worst forms of child labor, forced labor, deficits in decent work in vulnerable groups, discrimination at work, among other ills, require maintaining attention to achieve compliance with the Sustainable Development Goals.
The minister referred to the importance of strengthening within the NAM the level of coordination and participation in the work of the ILO, so that ‘our positions are taken into account on a greater extent’.
