LIMA, June 10 (NNN-ANDINA) — President Martin Vizcarra has announced that only Venezuelan citizens who hold passports and humanitarian visas will be allowed to enter Peruvian territory starting June 15.

Venezuela’s citizens residing in the Bolivarian country, who wish to travel to the Andean nation, must request humanitarian visas at the Consulates General in Caracas and Puerto Ordaz.

However, due to the humanitarian crisis, Venezuelans will be allowed to apply for humanitarian visas at the Peruvian Consulates General based in Colombia (Bogota, Medellin, and Leticia) and Ecuador (Cuenca, Guayaquil, Quito, Machala, and Loja).

Likewise, Venezuelan nationals will be able to request tourist, business, or different types of visas at any Inca country’s consulate located abroad.

Furthermore, the Foreign Affairs Ministry urged each Venezuelan citizen to obtain a corresponding visa before leaving for Peru or arriving at any Peruvian immigration checkpoint.

Peru currently hosts 800,000 Venezuelans.

Meanwhile, Peru deported 140 Venezuelan nationals including women with either police or criminal records, as well as those who had provided false information to immigration authorities at the moment of entry.

According to Peru’s Interior Ministry, the foreigners had criminal records —involving murder, aggravated robbery, illegal weapon possession, sexual seduction and rape, among others— both in their country of origin and Peru.

Last Thursday, Vizcarra supervised the expulsion of 52 Venezuelans involved in the aforementioned offenses.

“This is the third group, making a total of 140 Venezuelan deportees, who return to their country because we cannot allow people who commit crimes to stay here,” Vizcarra said.

According to the top official, the measure is adopted in accordance with Article N° 58 of the Migration Law and Regulations

“Yes to open arms, as Peru has always done, but now we have to be —and we will be— rigorous in controlling the people who enter (Peru). Besides, those, who have entered (the country) illegally, will be expelled,” he said.

Likewise, the statesman assured that he will continue undertaking efforts with other countries —in the region— to pressure Venezuelan Pres Nicholas Maduro, so that democracy returns to the Bolivarian nation. — NNN-ANDINA
