Haiti Transitional Presidential Council asks Kenya to launch intervention in the Country

PORT-AU-PRINCE, May 10 (NNN-ACN) — Haiti’s Transitional Presidential Council sent Kenya’s President William Ruto an official letter requesting the start of the international intervention in the Caribbean nation as a Multinational Security Support (MSS) Mission.

Reports from the capital Port-au-Prince say that the Council members wrote to the Kenyan president explaining that they are awaiting his support of Haiti, according to Telesur TV, citing statements by two members of the Transitional Presidential Council who said that they understand the urgency to address the security issue, which is priority.

The first Kenyan forces should arrive in Haiti over the next weeks. Their arrival would coincide with the scheduled official visit by President Ruto to Washington.

The acceptance of the international intervention was part of conditions imposed to any sector which would appoint a representative to the Transitional Council.

Some weeks ago, the Kenyan head of state said that his country was ready and willing to send police officers to help reestablish order in Haiti after the setting up of a Transitional Presidential Council.

He said that Kenya is ready to participate along a group of African nations and the Caribbean Community to rapidly enforce the support infrastructure in support of security, in tune with UN Security Council resolution 2699. — NNN-ACN
