US: 9 injured after car driven by elderly woman rams into restaurant in Texas

HOUSTON, May 5 (NNN-AGENCIES) — Nine people were injured after a car rammed into a restaurant on Saturday afternoon in Jersey Village, south-central U.S. state of Texas, authorities said.

Several families were dining in the restaurant when an elderly woman crashed her car into the building, according to the Jersey Village Police Department.

Police believe that the driver showed up to eat and confused the gas pedal for the brakes, said a report from local media outlet ABC13.

The injured range in age between 16 and 76, said the report. 

The elderly driver and a young child passenger were taken to a hospital with injuries that weren’t critical, police said.

Inside the restaurant, two adults and a child were critically injured and taken to a hospital for treatment, according to police. Two more adults and two other children suffered non-critical injuries.

The driver was issued citations for improper backing and reckless driving, police said. — NNN-AGENCIES
