The gathering was led by Ministers Jorge Chavez Cresta (Defense), Alex Contreras (Economy-Finance), and Ana Maria Choquehuanca (Production).

Similarly, it saw the presence of representatives from the Ministries of Agrarian Development-Irrigation and Housing-Construction-Sanitation.

The meeting was also attended by the chiefs of the National Civil Defense Institute (Indeci); the National Center for Disaster Risk Estimation, Prevention, and Reduction (Cenepred); the National Emergency Operations Center (COEN); the Multisectoral Commission in Charge of the National Study of El Niño Phenomenon (Enfen); the Peruvian Sea Institute (Imarpe); and a representative from the National Meteorology and Hydrology Service (Senamhi).

Earlier, Economy-Finance Minister Alex Contreras said the Government is not going to spare resources in preparedness to face an El Niño-related emergency, since historically it is known that this has generated a very significant impact in social terms and on loss of infrastructure.

Likewise, Contreras pointed out that this is the administration which has allocated the most resources to response and prevention against El Niño phenomenon.

“To date, there is more than S/7 billion (over US$1.901 billion) in the approved budget alone; with regard to executed budgets, these have exceeded S/5 billion (over US$1.357 billion),” he specified. — NNN-ANDINA
