Sri Lanka Issues Red Alert For Strong Winds, Rough Seas

COLOMBO, Dec 2 (NNN-XINHUA) – Sri Lanka’s meteorology department, issued a red alert yesterday, for strong winds and rough seas, as a depression developed over the Bay of Bengal sea areas.

Issuing a statement, the department said, fishing and naval communities in the deep and shallow sea areas in the south-west Bay of Bengal must be wary of strong winds and rough seas, as the low-pressure area has developed into a depression.

The weather conditions will turn into a cyclonic storm by tomorrow (Dec 3), the department said.

As a precautionary measure, naval and fishing communities are strongly advised to refrain from venturing into sea areas along the coast for the next 48 hours.
