Security Forces Arrest Weapon Smuggler, Seize Arms In Afghanistan

JALALABAD, Afghanistan, Jul 11 (NNN-ANA) – The Afghan security forces have arrested a weapon smuggler, in east Afghanistan’s Nangarhar province, and discovered arms and ammunition from his possession, a statement of the provincial government said, yesterday.

The man, who was attempting to smuggle arms and ammunition, was detained in Nazian district, and security personnel found five AKM assault rifles, two hand grenades and a huge number of munitions, including mortar mines and shells of anti-aircraft guns, the statement added.

This is the second arms seizure by Afghan security forces since Saturday.

Earlier on Saturday, security authorities discovered arms and ammunition, including five pieces of AKM rifles, one piece of U.S.-made M16 assault rifle, one pistol and thousands of bullets, in central Wardak province.

The Afghan caretaker government, which has seized thousands of light and heavy weapons, including tanks, since its induction in Aug, 2021, has vowed to collect arms and ammunition from anyone outside the security forces.– NNN-ANA
