Rainy Season Begins Across Japan

TOKYO, Jun 12 (NNN-NHK) – Japan’s weather agency said, the rainy season has officially begun across the country, as most regions are experiencing soggy weather.

The beginning of the season was announced, as three local regions of Hokuriku, Southern Tohoku and Northern Tohoku entered the period, according to a preliminary report by Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA).

Featuring cloudy and rainy days, the rainy season is also a time when disasters caused by heavy rain are likely to occur, said the JMA.

The report will also update the ending of the rainy season based on weather progresses and outlooks, it added.

Regions in western Japan entered the rainy season on May 29, while it began in Tokyo and nearby prefectures on Thursday, a day later than usual.

The season, which normally lasts one month and a half, does not occur in the nation’s northernmost prefecture of Hokkaido.– NNN-NHK
