Egyptian, Jordanian FMs Discuss Worsening Israeli-Palestinian Conflict

CAIRO, May 15 (NNN-MENA) – Egyptian Foreign Minister, Sameh Shoukry, and his Jordanian counterpart, Ayman Safadi, discussed yesterday, the deteriorating conflict in the Palestinian territories, Egyptian Foreign Ministry said.

During a phone conversation, both ministers stressed the importance of continuing the work on an immediate means to stop the conflict in the Gaza Strip, and prevent any Israeli provocations in Jerusalem, the ministry said in a statement.

They also highlighted the necessity to resume the Israeli-Palestinian peace process, which would give a real political horizon, to end the conflict through a just and lasting solution, that leads to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.

Tension between Israel and Hamas has been flaring up since last Monday, leaving 122 Palestinians, including women and children, and nine Israelis, killed, according to Palestinian and Israeli official figures.

Meanwhile, Palestinian sources said, the contacts to reach calm between the two sides have so far failed, adding, Egypt, Qatar and the United Nations lead the truce mediation.– NNN-MENA
