Updated: Adhere to CMCO SOP when waiting outside national palace – Police

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 25 (NNN-BERNAMA) — Personnel from media organisations and related agencies who will be present outside the Istana Negara (national palace) compound today, were reminded to adhere to the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) standard operating procedures (SOPs) to curb the spread of COVID-19.

The Conference of Rulers is expected to convene a special meeting at Istana Negara at 2.30 pm today.

On Saturday Bernama reported that Malaysia’s King, Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah will be discussing with the Malay Rulers on the proposals submitted by Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin to His Majesty on Friday.

The audience with His Majesty was requested by Muhyiddin after chairing a special Cabinet meeting in Putrajaya earlier.

In a statement issued on Saturday, Comptroller of the Royal Household Ahmad Fadil Shamsuddin said His Majesty understood the need for the continuation of the country’s administration to fight the COVID-19 pandemic.

“In fact, His Majesty is also very concerned about the people’s anxiety and worries over this latest development,” Ahmad Fadil said in the statement.

“A such,  Al-Sultan Abdullah advises the people to remain calm, not panic and be patient in facing this latest situation while waiting for a decision on the proposals,” Ahmad Fadil said.

The public is also advised not to engage in any speculation that can cause confusion and anxiety and threaten peace and order in the country.

During the about an hour-and-a-half audience with the Prime Minister, Ahmad Fadil said  Al-Sultan Abdullah consented to hear a briefing on the proposals that had been made at the special Cabinet meeting for His Majesty to consider for implementation.

On the surge in daily COVID-19 cases and the continuous emergence of new clusters in the country, he said Al-Sultan Abdullah reiterated his  advice to the people to continue to play their respective roles towards containing spread of the virus.

His Majesty also called on the people to discipline themselves by complying with the prescribed standard operating procedures (SOPs) and new norms in assisting the authorities in the fight against COVID-19.

“Al-Sultan Abdullah also calls on the people to be with His Majesty to pray that Malaysia will always be blessed and protected from all forms of threats and that the spread of COVID-19 can be effectively eliminated and ended immediately,” said Ahmad Fadil.

Malaysia recorded 710 new COVID-19 cases on Friday bringing the total to 24,514 cases. There were also 10 deaths recorded, bringing the national death toll to 214 cases.

Meanwhile on the meeting at Istana Negara today, Brickfields district police chief ACP Zairulnizam Mohd Zainuddin said the My Sejahtera registration system would be introduced and everyone is required to wear face masks, check their body temperature and register at the counters provided.

“They will be allowed to enter a special area where physical distancing is enforced,” he said in a statement today.

He stressed that media personnel are not allowed to move about or be on the road to prevent traffic congestion.

Zairulnizam also advised members of the public who are not involved, to avoid gathering outside the Istana Negara grounds.

He said those who fail to comply with the SOPs set would be compounded immediately under Regulation 11 of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures within the Infected Local Areas) Regulations 2020 while provocation by any party would be acted upon.
