Malaysian writers win international literary excellence awards

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 22 (NNN-BERNAMA) — Two Malaysian writers, Dr Raja Rajeswari Seetha Raman and Lilian Woo have brought honours to Malaysia when they were listed as recipients of the Suryodaya Literary Excellence Award 2020, yesterday, alongside some 100 writers from other countries including Canada, Denmark, Argentina, China, the Philippines as well as India.

Suryodaya Literary Excellency Award 2020, organised by Suryodaya Literary Foundation in Odisha, India is an international award dedicated to authors, writers and poets to ignite and expand their credibility, creativity and vision of life, conferred for their outstanding contribution to the world of literature and incessant endeavour for excellency to envisage a better world of tomorrow.

Raja Rajeswari, 59, said the recognition was bestowed on three of her English poems entitled COVID-19: A Game Changer for Humanity; The Universe: A New Abode and The Serene Beauty of Nature in the Sound of Silence.

“The organiser did not set any specific topic but I was inspired by the current COVID-19 pandemic that hit not only the country but also the whole world,” she said when contacted today.

She said her poems tell about how the pandemic brings about positive impacts such as on the environment.

The writer took about two months to complete all three poems during the Movement Control Order (MCO) and she submitted to the organiser in May.

“All affairs and communications (with the organiser) were conducted via email.  These trying times have not stopped me from writing,” she said.
