India’s COVID-19 Tally Rises To 6,906,151, Indonesia Reports 4,094 New Cases

HONG KONG, Oct 10 (NNN-XINHUA) – The COVID-19 pandemic continues to spread in Asia-Pacific countries as the tally in India rose to 6,906,151 on Friday, while Indonesia reported 4,094 new cases.

India’s COVID-19 tally reached 6,906,151 and death toll 106,490, as 70,496 new cases were detected and 964 patients died during the past 24 hours, said the latest data, released by the health ministry.

Still there are 893,592 active cases in the country, while 5,906,069 people have been successfully cured and discharged from hospitals.

The southern state of Tamil Nadu became the second state in the country to have surpassed the death toll of 10,000, after the south-western state of Maharashtra.

COVID-19 cases in Indonesia increased by 4,094 in the last 24 hours to 324,658, with the death toll adding by 97 to 11,677, the Health Ministry said. According to the ministry, 3,607 more people were discharged from hospitals, bringing the total number of recoveries to 247,667.

The number of confirmed cases in the Philippines surged to 334,770 with an additional 2,996 reported by the Health Ministry. Of the 2,996 newly confirmed infections, the ministry said that 2,554 or 85 percent occurred “within the recent 14 days” from Sept 26 to Oct 9.

The ministry said that the number of recoveries rose to 275,307, after 1,045 more patients recovered. Meanwhile, 83 more patients died from the disease, bringing the total death toll to 6,152.

Malaysia reported 354 new infections, the Health Ministry said, bringing the national total to 14,722.

Health Ministry Director-General, Noor Hisham Abdullah, said, two of the new cases are imported and 352 are local transmissions. The majority of new cases are from Sabah, with 274 new cases reported. Six more deaths were reported, bringing the death toll to 152.

South Korea reported 54 new cases as of midnight Thursday, compared to 24 hours ago, raising the total number of infections to 24,476.

The daily caseload stayed below 100 for two straight days, but the double-digit growth continued due to small cluster infections in Seoul and its surrounding Gyeonggi province. One more death was confirmed, leaving the death toll at 428. The total fatality rate stood at 1.75 percent.

Australia recorded zero death from the virus, for two consecutive days, for the first time in two months. The country’s death toll remained 897. As of Friday evening there have been 27,229 confirmed cases. A total of 24 new cases were reported in the last 24 hours.

New Zealand reported two new cases from managed isolation, and there are no new cases in the community. New Zealand’s total number of confirmed cases is 1,510, which is the number reported to the World Health Organisation, said a ministry statement.

The country’s total number of active cases is now 41, all imported cases. There are no active community cases, it said.– NNN-XINHUA
