3rd wave of COVID-19 sees temporary closure of wildlife, conservation and national parks

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 5 (Bernama) — The Wildlife and National Parks Department (Perhilitan) has announced the closure of all public facilities managed by the department from tomorrow until further notice. 

The department, in a statement, said the measure was taken to curb the third wave of the COVID-19 pandemic which was now plaguing the country.

The facilities involved were Paya Indah Wetlands (Selangor), Kelantan National Park, Kuala Koh (Kelantan), Penang National Park and Terengganu National Park, Tanjung Mentong (Kenyir).

In Pahang, the facilities involved were the National Elephant Conservation Centre, Kuala Gandah; Pahang National Park, Sungai Relau, Merapoh; Pahang National Park, Kuala Tahan and the Tasik Bera RAMSAR Site.

In addition, all Wildlife Conservation Centres and Wildlife Rescue Centres were also affected in the closure, said the statement.

Meanwhile, in a separate statement, the Forest Research Institute of Malaysia (FRIM) announced the temporary shutdown of the Kepong Botanical Garden and the Forest Skywalk from today to a time to be determined later.
