Mozambique: President wants to strengthen capabilities of Defense Forces to fight insurgencies

PRESIDENT OF MOZAMBIQUE, FILIPE NYUSI

MAPUTO, Oct 5 (NNN-AGENCIES) — Mozambican President Filipe Nyusi said that Mozambique aims to continue strengthening the capabilities of the Defense and Security Forces to stop the incursions by armed groups in Cabo Delgado.

“It is our desire to continue to strengthen the capacity for military intervention and the projection of the power of the Defense and Security Forces so that they can provide an increasingly efficient response to the attacks of terrorists,” said Filipe Nyusi.

The Mozambican head of state was speaking at Praça dos Heróis, in Maputo, during a ceremony to mark the day of peace and reconciliation, which is being celebrated today in Mozambique.

According to the Mozambican head of state, terrorism requires more elaborate and coordinated efforts from all states, considering that the ideological motivations of these actions are a global threat.

“We strongly condemn these acts and reiterate that, as a state, we will continue to use all the resources at our disposal to guarantee public order and security because the Mozambican people deserve to have a peaceful country,” he stated.

The province of Cabo Delgado has been the scene of armed attacks for three years, some claimed by the Daesh group, but whose origin remains unclear.

The violence caused a humanitarian crisis with more than a 1,000 deaths and about 250,000 internally displaced persons. — NNN-AGENCIES
