Iraq Eases Health Restrictions As Total COVID-19 Infections Exceed 260,000

BAGHDAD, Sept 8 (NNN-NINA) – Iraqi health authorities, decided to ease health restrictions, imposed previously, to contain the spread of the pandemic as the total nationwide infections exceeded 260,000.

A statement by Iraqi Higher Committee for Health and National Safety, headed by Prime Minister, Mustafa al-Kadhimi, said that the committee decided to reopen the crossing borders exclusively for commercial movement with abiding by the health prevention measures.

It also decided to reopen restaurants and tourist facilities of five-star hotels, as well as, lifting the ban on sporting activities and events in various fields without the audience under the health preventive measures, according to the statement.

In addition, the committee decided to permit up to 50 percent of employees to work in government institutions, after it had permitted 25 percent last month, the statement added.

Earlier in the day, the Health Ministry reported 4,314 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the total nationwide infections to 264,684, including 7,589 deaths and 202,859 recoveries.

Iraq has been taking a series of measures to contain the pandemic since Feb, when the first case appeared in the country.– NNN-NINA
