Israel Files Injunctions To End Lab Workers’ Strike Amid COVID-19

JERUSALEM, Sept 3 (NNN-MA’AN) – Israel’s Ministry of Health announced last night that, it filed a protective injunction at a labour court, requiring laboratory workers to end the strike launched Sunday.

The court is due to hear the ministry’s request today.

Israel’s lab workers went on strike claiming they have to deal with low wages but high workloads.

The strike includes 2,000 workers in 400 labs across Israel, with staff running only life-saving urgent tests, such as tests for critically ill patients, cancer and heart patients, as well as, COVID-19 tests.

However, the strikers give only positive results to COVID-19 tests, while those who are found negative will not receive the results.

The workers also threatened to stop performing COVID-19 tests, if their demands were not met.

The Health Ministry said, despite several discussions with the workers’ representatives, including proposals for higher wages and better working conditions, no agreement was reached.– NNN-MA’AN
