King’s royal address focus of Malaysia’s national day – Minister

PUTRAJAYA, Aug 29 (NNN-BERNAMA) — Malaysia’s King Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah’s royal address is expected to be the focus of Malaysia’s National Day (Merdeka Day) celebration this year.

Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah said this would be only the second time in the history of Merdeka Day celebrations that the King will be delivering a Royal Address.

The first was by the fourth King, Almarhum Tuanku Ismail Nasiruddin Shah 50 years ago during the royal proclamation of the Rukun Negara on Merdeka Day, Saifuddin told reporters after checking on the National Day 2020 celebration rehearsal here today.

The National Day celebration this year, with the theme ‘Malaysia Prihatin’ (Malaysia Cares) will be held at Dataran Pahlawan, Precinct 1 here on Aug 31.

Sultan Abdullah and Raja Permaisuri Agong, Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah have consented to grace the event.

Saifuddin said he was satisfied with preparations so far, which he added were progressing quite well.

“Insyaallah, let us pray that all events will run smoothly as planned,” he said.

He said this year’s celebration will be held on a modest scale to comply with the new normal as part of efforts to contain the COVID-19 pandemic.

The National Day 2020 celebration will also be telecast live by local television stations, Saifuddin added.
