French citizen quarantined in Langkawi – Health DG

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 21 (NNN-BERNAMA) — Malaysia’s Health Ministry today confirmed that a French citizen who was detected wearing a pink wristband at the Langkawi International Airport (LTAL) in Kedah was sent to a quarantine centre in Langkawi on Thursday night.

Health Director General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said his officials had investigated the matter and found that the foreigner, who had arrived at the KL International Airport (KLIA) earlier at 8.25 Thursday morning, was also listed on the Malaysia My Second Home programme (MM2H).

As he was in the MM2H list, the French citizen was initially given some flexibility to self-quarantine in his residence in Langkawi based along the conditions set out for MM2H issued on June 25.

“However, with the government making it compulsory as of July 24 for all travellers arriving in Malaysia to undergo a 14-day quarantine at quarantine centres, the home quarantine conditions given to those on MM2H had been cancelled,” he said in a statement here today.

The individual who had tested negative for COVID-19 at the KLIA was also allowed to continue his journey to Langkawi.

Dr Noor Hisham said however upon his arrival at the LTAL, the man was detained by the public tracking team as he was wearing a pink wristband which indicated his status as an individual who was under public surveillance and was present in a public area.

Following this, the traveller was sent to the quarantine centre in Langkawi, he added.
