Indonesia’s COVID-19 cases nears 140,000 with 2,081 new cases

JAKARTA, Aug 17 (NNN-BERNAMA) — Indonesia’s COVID-19 tally continues to rise and is nearing 140,000 cases.

According to data uploaded on the government’s COVID-19 portal www.covid19.go.id Sunday, 2,081 new cases were reported in the last 24 hours, bringing the tally to 139,549 cases.

Another 77,090 patients are still under surveillance for the virus.

From Saturday till Sunday noon, there were another 79 deaths due to COVID-19, bringing the death toll to 6,150 people.

The Jakarta province tops the number of cases at 29,400, followed by East Java (27,903) and the rest spread out over 32 other provinces.

East Java has recorded the highest number of deaths at 2,023 people, followed by Jakarta (981), Central Java (786), South Sulawesi  (343) and the rest from other provinces.
