India Celebrates Its 74th Independence Day

NEW DELHI, Aug 15 (NNN-PTI) – India is celebrating its 74th Independence Day today. To mark the beginning of the celebrations, Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, visited Rajghat at 7.00 am and paid his tributes to Mahatma Gandhi. After that, he proceeded to the Red Fort, from where he addressed the nation in his second Independence Day speech, of his second term in power.

Seventy-three years of independence from British rule will be celebrated in a subdued manner, as India continues to tackle the COVID-19 crisis, that has claimed over 48,000 lives and infected over 2.46 million people across the country.

Over 1,500 “COVID-19 winners” who recovered from the disease, attended the function, in a symbol of the citizens’ determination to fight the pandemic and emerge winners.– NNN-PTI
