MT Sinabung volcanic eruptions will not affect air quality in Malaysia – Meteorological Dept

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 14 (NNN-BERNAMA) — The rumour that the Mount Sinabung volcanic eruptions in northern Sumatra, Indonesia would affect the air quality in Malaysia until this weekend is untrue.

Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) director-general, Jailan Simon in a statement today said the Sinabung volcanic eruptions which began on Aug 10, would no longer have any impact on the country.

“At the beginning, it had only affected flight operations but did not affect air quality,” he said.

Jailan also reminded the public not to spread false information and called on them to be alert of valid information released by MetMalaysia through its official website and the myCuaca application.

The ash and smoke from the Mount Sinabung volcano which started erupting at 11.37 am last Monday had entered Malaysian airspace in the peninsula, namely Perak, Kedah, Perlis, Penang, Kelantan, Terengganu and Pahang.
