President-Elect Of UN General Assembly To Visit Pakistan From Today: Foreign Ministry

ISLAMABAD, Aug 9 (NNN-APP) – The president-elect of the 75th session of the UN General Assembly, Volkan Bozkir, will visit Pakistan from today Aug 9 to 10, at the invitation of the government of Pakistan.

Bozkir, a veteran Turkish diplomat, was elected president of the 75th session of the UN General Assembly in June, this year.

“Bozkir’s visit is an important opportunity to inter alia highlight Pakistan’s strong and substantive contributions to the United Nations’ efforts, in the promotion and maintenance of international peace and security, especially through our contribution to the UN Peacekeeping Operations around the world,” the foreign ministry said in a statement.

The ministry said, Pakistani Foreign Minister, Shah Mahmood Qureshi, will have wide-ranging talks with the president-elect on issues relating to the main pillars of the UN work, including peace and security, development and human rights.

Pakistan remains committed to supporting the role of the UN General Assembly, on the questions relating to international peace and security, economic and social development, promotion and protection of human rights, peaceful settlement of international disputes, refraining from the threat of use of force, and developing friendly relations among nations, according to the statement.– NNN-APP
