Jordan Postpones Reopening Of Airports For Int’l Flights

AMMAN, Aug 5 (NNN-PETRA) – Jordan yesterday decided to go back on its previous decision, to reopen its airports for international flights.

Jordanian Minister of State for Media Affairs, Amjad Adaileh, said, the decision to reopen airports for international flights has been postponed, based on recommendations from the anti-pandemic committee.

In its announcement last month, the Jordanian government said, flights would be allowed between Jordan and certain countries, where the pandemic is under control, starting on Aug 5.

“Although reopening of airports for international commercial flights will be postponed, the airports will remain open for flights to bring back Jordanians from several countries, and for emergency flights to allow non-Jordanians to leave the country, back to their countries,” Adaileh said.

“The decision to postpone resuming flights with certain countries, as it was initially planned, came after the rapid increase in COVID-19 cases globally,” the minister added.

Also, Jordan reported six new COVID-19 cases yesterday, all passengers coming from abroad, raising the total number of confirmed cases in the country to 1,224.– NNN-PETRA
