Protesters, Security Forces Clash In Jordan’s Karak Governorate

AMMAN, Aug 5 (NNN-PETRA) – Seven members of Jordan’s Public Security Department were assaulted yesterday, by protesters in Karak governorate.

Protesters tried to block roads and threw stones at the security personnel, who came to disperse them, as they violated public health instructions by holding such a gathering.

The security forces resorted to using tear gas, in a bid to expel the crowds.

The protest was held to voice objection to the detention of members of Jordan Teachers Association (JTA).

On July 25, Amman’s Prosecutor General ordered closure of the JTA and its branches, for two years, and decided to detain members of the teachers’ syndicate on several charges.– NNN-PETRA
